Destination Guide

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and offers employment in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, transport, wellness and property services. Patong has an energetic nightlife and shopping scene, while areas such as Kata, Kamala, Rawai and Phuket Old Town provide different lifestyles, from quieter beaches to local markets and historic Sino-Portuguese streets. Thai culture values politeness, respect for elders, modest behaviour and calm communication; learning basic Thai is useful in daily life and at work. Living costs vary, with rent and transport generally higher in tourist centres. Foreign workers normally need an appropriate non-immigrant visa, a work permit and employer sponsorship before starting employment. Requirements can change, so applicants should confirm details with the employer and Thai authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, insurance, transport, banking and rainy-season preparation.
