Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, engineering, retail, technology and shared services. Kuala Lumpur is a major employment hub, while island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide resort and tourism jobs. Life is generally affordable compared with many international cities, with excellent food, public transport in Kuala Lumpur, tropical weather and a diverse culture shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities. English is widely used in hospitality and business, though Malay is the national language. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass or relevant work permit before starting employment; requirements depend on nationality, salary and occupation. Candidates should secure a written offer, confirm sponsorship, arrange accommodation and check passport, medical and immigration requirements before relocating.
