Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country rather than a single island destination, with opportunities concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and resort areas. Hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, technology and business services are major employment sectors. Kuala Lumpur offers modern urban living, international schools, extensive public transport and diverse Malay, Chinese and Indian influences, while island locations provide a slower, beach-oriented lifestyle. Living costs are moderate by regional standards, though central Kuala Lumpur rents can be high. English is widely used in hotels and business, while Malay is the national language. Foreign workers normally require an Employment Pass sponsored and processed by their employer before starting work. Applicants should confirm eligibility, medical requirements, contract terms, accommodation and dependent arrangements. Malaysia’s tropical climate, varied cuisine and welcoming communities make relocation attractive, but traffic, humidity and adapting to local regulations should be considered.
