Destination Guide

Working in the Maldives offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels and resorts, particularly in food and beverage, culinary arts, housekeeping, wellness, marine activities, engineering and guest services. Resort islands are usually self-contained, with accommodation, meals, transport and staff facilities provided by the employer. Life is peaceful and scenic, but remote: social activities are mainly resort-based, and travel to Malé or local islands may require a boat or seaplane. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, island traditions and a strong connection to the sea; modest dress and respectful behavior are expected outside resort areas. Foreign employees generally enter with employer-arranged authorization and must obtain a Maldives work permit or work visa before starting employment. Tourist entry does not permit work. Confirm contract benefits, medical insurance, flights, taxes, permit costs and leave arrangements before relocating, and expect a warm tropical climate year-round.
