Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island but a country with a peninsula and island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Borneo. Hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, healthcare, technology and shared-services jobs are widely available, with major opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and resort areas. Putrajaya offers a quieter, modern lifestyle, green spaces and access to Kuala Lumpur, while Langkawi and Penang provide coastal living and established tourism industries. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with halal food widely available and English commonly used in hotels. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass before starting work; the company handles much of the application process. Relocating workers should arrange passport validity, accommodation, medical cover, banking and transport in advance. Salaries and living costs vary considerably between cities and islands.
