Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it is a popular relocation destination with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation and events, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture combines Emirati traditions with a highly international lifestyle; respectful dress and behaviour are important, particularly during Ramadan. Dubai offers modern housing, public transport, beaches, shopping, nightlife and year-round warm weather, although summers are extremely hot. Most overseas employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas. Employers commonly arrange work permits, medical testing and Emirates ID procedures, while benefits such as accommodation, transport, meals and insurance depend on the contract. New arrivals should confirm salary, service charge, working hours, accommodation, annual leave and repatriation terms before accepting an offer. Costs vary considerably by neighbourhood and lifestyle.
