Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the widest range of hospitality, engineering, construction, technology and business opportunities. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a large international community; modest dress, respect for religion and awareness of local customs are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, dining, desert activities and a busy expatriate social scene, although Dubai living costs can be high. Most overseas employees require an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit. Employers commonly arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and basic health insurance, but applicants should confirm accommodation, transport, flights and benefits in writing. Relocation requires passport validity, document attestation where requested, budgeting for initial expenses and understanding UAE labour and probation rules.
