Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country rather than a single island, with strong hospitality, tourism, food service, retail and business opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Daily life combines modern city conveniences with affordable food, diverse neighbourhoods and rich Malay, Chinese and Indian cultural traditions. Kuala Lumpur offers efficient rail links, shopping, international restaurants and a generally lower cost of living than many major regional capitals, although central housing can be expensive. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored work permit or employment pass, and the employer usually manages the application before work begins. A valid passport, employment contract, medical checks and relevant approvals may be required. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, transport and initial living costs, check that the visa matches the job, and confirm accommodation and benefits directly with the hotel.
