Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and other islands. Jakarta, on Java, offers the broadest employment market, especially in hotels, restaurants, business services, construction, and technology, but it is busy, humid, and traffic can be difficult. Bali provides a more relaxed lifestyle and strong tourism employment, although housing costs in popular areas are high. Indonesian culture values hospitality, community, modesty, and respect for religious traditions; Bahasa Indonesia is useful for daily life, while English is common in international hotels. Salaries and living costs vary considerably by city. Foreign workers generally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit, and the appropriate limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Before relocating, confirm the contract, benefits, accommodation, insurance, tax arrangements, and visa responsibilities with the employer.
