Culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, alongside Bahasa Malaysia. Lifestyle ranges from city living and shopping to beaches, diving, rainforest activities and island travel. Malaysia has popular destinations including Langkawi, Penang, Perhentian, Redang, Tioman and islands around Sabah. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and approval depends on role, qualifications and current immigration rules. Employers usually manage the application. Relocation costs, housing, transport and healthcare should be checked carefully, particularly for resort locations. Weather is tropical and humid year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast.
