Destination Guide

Indonesia offers hospitality opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Sulawesi, Batam, and the surrounding islands, especially in hotels, resorts, restaurants, diving, events, and tourism services. Manado, on Sulawesi, is known for friendly communities, seafood, volcanic scenery, and access to world-class diving around Bunaken. Life is generally more relaxed and affordable than in Jakarta or Bali, although imported goods and some specialist services may cost more. Indonesian culture places importance on respect, teamwork, modesty, and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is very helpful. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and KITAS, with the company handling much of the immigration process. Do not work on a tourist visa. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, meals, transport, insurance, flights, tax treatment, and service-charge arrangements in writing. Manado has an airport, hospitals, supermarkets, and local markets, but international amenities are more limited than in Bali.
