Destination Guide

Spain’s main island destinations include the Balearic Islands—Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera—and the Canary Islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Employment is concentrated in tourism, hospitality, retail, transport, warehousing, maritime services, customer support, renewable energy and logistics. Mallorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria offer the broadest job markets, while smaller islands provide a quieter lifestyle but fewer specialised roles. The culture combines Spanish traditions with strong regional identities, outdoor living, local festivals and excellent food. Living costs vary considerably; housing in popular areas can be expensive, especially during tourist season. EU and EEA citizens can work without a visa, while non-EU nationals generally need a work and residence permit arranged with an employer. Barcelona is on mainland Spain, so relocation to an island would require a separate job location and practical assessment.
