Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cloud, data, cybersecurity, logistics technology, shared services and regional operations, particularly around Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. The country is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international communities; English is widely used in business. Life is relatively affordable, with excellent food, modern shopping, efficient private healthcare and easy access to beaches, rainforests and islands such as Langkawi, Penang and the Perhentians. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest professional network but has traffic and a faster pace, while Penang offers a more relaxed technology and coastal lifestyle. Foreign professionals generally need employer-sponsored authorization, commonly an Employment Pass, before starting work. Employers usually handle the application, but requirements include a valid contract, qualifications and salary thresholds. Check current immigration rules before relocating, and budget for housing, insurance, transport and dependent visas.
