Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in logistics, shared services, technology, engineering, finance, manufacturing, tourism and e-commerce, with Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor serving as major employment hubs. The country has a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities, with diverse food, festivals and languages. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island destinations can be more expensive. Malaysia’s islands, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and the Perhentians, offer beaches, diving and relaxed weekend travel. Foreign interns and employees usually need the appropriate employment or internship pass, sponsored and arranged with the employer before starting work. Requirements vary by nationality and program, so applicants should confirm current immigration rules with DHL and Malaysian authorities. Public transport is strongest in major cities; a local SIM, basic Malay phrases and respect for religious customs are useful.
