Destination Guide

Ireland offers strong opportunities in banking, investment services, technology, pharmaceuticals, professional services and multinational operations, with Dublin as the main employment hub. The country has a welcoming, social culture shaped by music, sport, literature and close community ties. Lifestyle advantages include a relatively compact country, scenic coastlines, historic towns and easy access to Europe, although Dublin housing and childcare can be expensive. English is the primary workplace language. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can generally live and work without an employment permit. Non-EEA applicants normally need an employment permit and may require an employment visa, depending on nationality and circumstances. Senior financial-services roles may qualify for a Critical Skills Employment Permit if the occupation, salary and contract meet current requirements; employer sponsorship should be confirmed before accepting an offer. Relocating employees should research housing, tax registration, healthcare, banking and transport in advance.
