Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of banking, finance, technology and professional-services opportunities. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international expatriate community; modest dress, respect for local customs and awareness of Islamic holidays are important. Lifestyle options range from modern city living, restaurants and shopping to beaches, desert activities and a large international social scene. Most foreign employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas, usually arranged after receiving an employment offer. Requirements commonly include passport checks, medical testing, Emirates ID registration and document attestation where applicable. Relocating professionals should budget for housing, health insurance, transport, school fees if relevant and deposits. Employment contracts, benefits and visa sponsorship should be reviewed carefully, and regulations can change, so official UAE government guidance is advisable.
