Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, finance, compliance, and customer operations, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and Cyberjaya. For island living, Penang combines a strong employment market with heritage neighborhoods, beaches, diverse food, and a relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi is quieter and scenic but has fewer professional opportunities, while Sabah and Sarawak offer attractive nature-focused lifestyles and growing urban centers. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences; English is widely used in corporate workplaces. Living costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas cost more. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling most of the application process. Relocating candidates should budget for housing deposits, health insurance, transportation, and document legalization, and should confirm immigration requirements before accepting an offer.
