Destination Guide

Penang is Malaysia’s best-known island business and lifestyle destination, connected to the mainland by bridges and served by an international airport. Job opportunities are available in banking operations, shared services, technology, electronics, manufacturing, tourism, healthcare and education. George Town combines heritage architecture, museums, cafés and a lively food scene, while the island offers beaches, hiking and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. English is widely used in professional settings, and Mandarin can be especially useful with Chinese-speaking customers; Malay remains the national language. Living costs are generally lower than in Kuala Lumpur, though popular areas can be relatively expensive. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the company must manage the relevant immigration process. Candidates should confirm eligibility, medical requirements and documentation before relocating. Public transport, e-hailing and rental housing are readily available, although commuting can be busy during peak hours.
