Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state and a major regional centre for banking, technology, consulting, logistics and professional services. Job opportunities are particularly strong in financial services, fintech, cybersecurity, data, compliance, engineering and regional operations. The culture is multicultural, organised and work-focused, with English widely used in business. Public transport is efficient, healthcare is well regarded and the city offers varied food, shopping, parks and entertainment, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Employment usually requires an employer-sponsored work pass. Professional roles commonly use the Employment Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and Ministry of Manpower assessment; employers normally manage the application. Relocating employees should arrange housing, insurance, banking access and tax advice before arrival. Popular residential areas include the city centre, River Valley, Tiong Bahru, East Coast and neighbourhoods near MRT lines. Singapore’s warm, humid climate and frequent rain make lightweight clothing and practical footwear useful.
