Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in technology, e-commerce, telecommunications, finance, consulting, manufacturing, tourism, and renewable energy. Tokyo is the largest employment hub, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo offer lower-cost alternatives and growing business communities. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respect for hierarchy, although international companies may have more flexible cultures. Daily life is generally safe, convenient, and supported by excellent public transport, but housing and commuting in Tokyo can be expensive. Professional Japanese significantly improves career prospects, even when English is used at work. Foreign employees normally need an appropriate work visa, commonly sponsored by the employer; highly skilled professionals may qualify for points-based benefits. Relocation usually involves arranging housing, residence registration, health insurance, banking, and a tax number after arrival. Learning local customs and building workplace relationships makes adjustment easier.
