Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, software, telecommunications, finance, manufacturing, tourism, education, and corporate sales. Tokyo has the largest concentration of international and digital jobs, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo offer lower-cost alternatives and growing business communities. Japanese workplace culture generally values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful communication. Daily life is safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and entertainment, though housing and commuting in Tokyo can be expensive. Foreign professionals usually need an appropriate work visa, commonly sponsored by the employer; highly skilled workers may qualify for faster permanent-residency pathways. Relocating requires planning for housing, registration, health insurance, banking, taxes, and phone services. Learning practical Japanese greatly improves workplace communication and everyday life.
