Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, telecommunications, software, data, finance, manufacturing, tourism, healthcare, and international business. Tokyo provides the largest job market and extensive public transport, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo offer lower-cost alternatives with strong local industries. Japanese workplaces often value punctuality, teamwork, politeness, and careful communication; international companies may have more flexible cultures. Lifestyle ranges from dense urban living to quieter coastal or rural communities, with excellent rail services, public safety, and convenient amenities. Living costs are highest in Tokyo, particularly for housing. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work visa, such as an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, and must meet qualification requirements. Relocation commonly involves securing housing, registering residency, arranging health insurance, and setting up banking and utilities. Learning Japanese is highly beneficial for daily life and many domestic-facing roles.
