Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, design, marketing, engineering, finance, hospitality, education, and international business, with Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka being major employment centers. Workplace culture often values reliability, preparation, teamwork, and respectful communication. Urban life is convenient, safe, and well connected by public transport, though Tokyo housing and daily expenses can be high. Japan’s four main islands—Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku—offer different lifestyles, from large-city careers to quieter coastal and rural communities. Foreign professionals generally need a work-appropriate status of residence before starting employment. Employers commonly sponsor visas for eligible skilled workers, while highly qualified applicants may qualify for the Highly Skilled Professional route. Relocation usually involves arranging housing, registration at the local municipality, health insurance, a residence card, and a Japanese bank account. Learning basic Japanese makes work and daily life considerably easier.
