Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in technology, product management, engineering, finance, tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, and renewable energy. Tokyo provides the largest concentration of international employers, while Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Sapporo offer growing technology and business communities. Japanese workplace culture values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful communication, although global companies may be more flexible. Daily life is generally safe, efficient, and convenient, with excellent public transportation, healthcare, and food, but housing and commuting costs can be high in Tokyo. Foreign professionals usually need an appropriate work visa, commonly sponsored by their employer; highly skilled workers may qualify for a points-based visa. Relocating typically involves arranging housing, residence registration, health insurance, a bank account, and a phone contract. Japanese language ability is helpful for administration and long-term integration.
