Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, telecommunications, software engineering, data, finance, tourism, manufacturing, and education, with Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka serving as major employment centers. The workplace often values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respect for seniority, although international companies may have more flexible cultures. Daily life is convenient, safe, and supported by excellent public transport, but housing and commuting costs can be high in Tokyo. Japan’s four main islands offer different lifestyles: Honshu has the largest cities, Hokkaido is known for nature and cooler weather, Kyushu has a warmer climate and growing startup activity, and Shikoku is quieter and more rural. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work visa, such as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services. Relocation usually involves arranging a Certificate of Eligibility, residence registration, health insurance, banking, and suitable housing.
