Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, e-commerce, finance, marketing, engineering, tourism, education and customer support, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. The culture values punctuality, teamwork, respect, attention to detail and continuous improvement. Life in Japan can be convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, varied food, seasonal festivals and a mix of urban and traditional communities. Tokyo provides the largest job market but has high housing costs; regional cities may offer a slower pace and lower expenses. Foreign professionals generally need an appropriate work visa, usually sponsored by an employer, before starting employment. Common routes include Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services and Highly Skilled Professional visas. Applicants should prepare qualifications, employment records and a residence process after arrival. Learning Japanese improves daily life and career prospects, even when English is used at work.
