Destination Guide

The Maldives offers employment opportunities mainly in resorts, including culinary, housekeeping, front office, marine activities, engineering, wellness, finance, and guest services. Resort life is multicultural and structured, with employees commonly living on the island, sharing staff facilities, and working rotating shifts. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, traditional fishing, island communities, and strong family values; respectful dress and behavior are important outside resort areas. Lifestyle in a resort can be peaceful but isolated, with limited shopping and nightlife compared with major cities. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa, arranged through the company before or after arrival. Employers commonly provide accommodation, meals, airport transfers, medical support, and return travel terms, although conditions vary. Candidates should confirm contract length, gratuities, leave, internet access, and medical coverage before relocating.
