Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but Dubai is a coastal city built around a collection of waterfront areas, including Palm Jumeirah. Hospitality is one of the country’s largest employment sectors, with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, catering, events, and tourism. The culture is multicultural and generally welcoming, while Islamic traditions require respectful dress and behaviour, especially during Ramadan. Dubai offers a modern lifestyle, excellent public transport, beaches, shopping, international food, and extensive entertainment, although living costs can be high. Employers commonly sponsor work visas, arrange medical testing and Emirates ID processing, and may provide accommodation, meals, transport, health insurance, and annual flights. Employees should not work on a tourist visa and should carefully review salary, benefits, working hours, probation, and accommodation terms before relocating. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor facilities and air-conditioned transport are important.
