Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, with varied opportunities in hotels, tourism, food and beverage, retail, technology, education, and creative industries. Makassar, on Sulawesi, is an important commercial gateway to eastern Indonesia and offers growing hospitality, design, marketing, and service-sector employment. Life is generally more affordable than in Jakarta or Bali, although salaries can also be lower. Indonesian culture places strong value on family, hospitality, community, and religious respect; local food and traditions vary considerably between islands. The climate is tropical, with warm temperatures and distinct wet and dry periods. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate work visa and employer sponsorship before starting employment; visa rules and permits should be confirmed with the Indonesian immigration authorities or the employer. Relocating workers should arrange secure accommodation, health insurance, document legalization, and local transport before arrival.
