Destination Guide

Bahrain is a compact island country in the Arabian Gulf with a diverse hospitality sector, particularly in Manama, Seef, Juffair, Amwaj Islands and the southern resort areas. Hotels, restaurants, catering companies, spas and event venues offer opportunities for chefs, service staff, engineering teams and supervisors. The culture combines Arab traditions, Islamic customs and a cosmopolitan expatriate community. Arabic is the official language, while English is widely used at work. Lifestyle is generally relaxed, with shopping malls, cafés, beaches, museums and weekend dining popular among residents. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor facilities are important. International employees normally need an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit; the employer commonly arranges medical checks and documentation. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, annual leave, air tickets and service-charge policies. Bahrain is well connected to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, but employees must follow local laws, dress expectations and religious practices.
