Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers a highly international lifestyle, particularly in Dubai. Hospitality, tourism, restaurants, retail, aviation, events and facilities services provide regular employment opportunities for overseas workers. The culture blends Emirati traditions with communities from around the world; modest dress and respect for Islamic customs are appreciated, especially during Ramadan. Dubai offers modern housing, extensive public transport, beaches, shopping and varied dining, though rent and daily expenses can be high. Most expatriate employees need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit; the employer normally arranges the process after a signed contract and medical checks. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, annual leave and recruitment fees before relocating. Bring certified documents where required, and never work on a tourist visa. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor, air-conditioned activities are common.
