The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers a highly international lifestyle, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, retail, finance, technology and professional services provide strong employment opportunities, although senior roles are competitive and often require regional or international experience. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a diverse expatriate community; modest dress and respect for local customs are appreciated. Residents enjoy modern housing, beaches, shopping, restaurants, desert activities and excellent transport, though summer heat is intense. Most overseas employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas, with medical checks and identity registration normally arranged after an offer. Some senior professionals may qualify for longer-term residency routes. Relocation packages can include flights, accommodation support, health insurance and schooling allowances, but these should be confirmed in the contract. Dubai is expensive, particularly for rent, so compensation and benefits should be assessed together.
