Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, with demand for chefs, restaurant staff, hotel supervisors and tourism professionals. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous cultures, with diverse food traditions, festivals and languages; English is widely used in hotels. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide an island-oriented lifestyle with beaches, diving and outdoor activities, while KLIA and Kuala Lumpur offer stronger year-round employment. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored work permit and must meet Malaysian immigration and sector requirements; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers may assist with permits, accommodation, transport or meals, but this should be confirmed before accepting an offer. Check current visa rules with Malaysia Immigration and the Malaysian embassy.
