Destination Guide

Qatar is a peninsula rather than an island, but it offers strong employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, construction, engineering, aviation, healthcare, retail and business services. Doha is the main employment center and has a modern, international lifestyle with shopping malls, museums, beaches, desert activities and a growing dining scene. Qatari culture places importance on family, hospitality and Islamic traditions; modest dress and respectful behavior are expected, especially during Ramadan. Most expatriates relocate through an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit, with the company commonly assisting with documentation, medical checks and housing or allowances. Employment packages may include accommodation, transport, meals, medical insurance and annual flights, but these benefits vary by contract. Living costs can be high, particularly for housing. Before accepting an offer, candidates should confirm salary, working hours, accommodation, transport, probation terms and visa sponsorship in writing.
