Destination Guide

The Maldives offers hospitality opportunities mainly in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving centers, spas, marine activities, engineering and guest services. Resort life is usually provided on a private island, with accommodation and meals included, but employees should expect a remote setting, humid weather, long shifts and limited access to towns. Maldivian culture is welcoming and strongly influenced by Islam; modest clothing and respectful behavior are important, especially on local islands. Alcohol is generally restricted to resort islands. Employment visas and work permits are normally arranged and sponsored by the employer, so candidates should not work on a tourist visa. Before relocating, confirm the contract, salary, service charge, accommodation, medical cover, flights and leave terms. International airport transfers to remote resorts may involve a domestic flight or seaplane. Male is the main administrative hub, while local islands offer a quieter, more traditional lifestyle.
