Destination Guide

Although the United Arab Emirates is not an island, Dubai is a coastal destination best known for Palm Jumeirah, beaches and a highly international lifestyle. Hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation, construction, facilities management and technology provide many employment opportunities. UAE workplaces are multicultural, and Arabic and English are widely used; respectful dress and behavior are important, particularly during Ramadan. Dubai offers modern housing, extensive public transport, shopping, restaurants and year-round sunshine, although summers are extremely hot. Employers normally arrange an employment visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID after a formal job offer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation packages vary and may include accommodation, transport, meals, health insurance and flights. Candidates should verify contract terms, probation, working hours, overtime, benefits and accommodation before travelling. Living costs can be high, especially for private housing, so employer-provided benefits are valuable.
