Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but Dubai and Abu Dhabi are major coastal cities with excellent international connections and strong employment opportunities in aviation, logistics, tourism, technology, finance, retail and professional services. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international population. Lifestyle options range from modern shopping, dining and entertainment to beaches, desert activities and cultural attractions. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are generally warm and pleasant. Most expatriates enter on an employment residence visa sponsored by their employer; the company normally arranges work permits, medical checks and residency processing. New arrivals should budget for housing, health insurance, transport and school fees if relocating with family. English is widely used in business, although respecting local customs, dress expectations and religious practices is important.
