Destination Guide

The UAE is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the broadest opportunities in aviation, technology, finance, consulting and logistics. The country has a highly international culture, modern infrastructure, excellent restaurants and extensive shopping, beaches and desert activities. Dubai is fast-paced and diverse, while Abu Dhabi is generally quieter and more family-oriented. Most expatriates live in rented apartments and should budget carefully for housing, schooling and transport. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored residence visa, work permit, medical screening and Emirates ID; dependants can often be sponsored subject to salary and documentation requirements. Employers commonly provide or support health insurance and may offer relocation, flights or housing benefits, but contracts should be checked carefully. English is widely used in business, although Arabic is the official language. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor facilities and air-conditioning shape daily life.
