Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi serving as the main employment centres. Job opportunities are strong in aviation, logistics, tourism, technology, finance, construction, healthcare and government-related organisations. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati hospitality and a highly international population; respectful dress and behaviour are important. Lifestyle options range from modern city living, shopping and restaurants to beaches, desert activities and cultural attractions. UAE employment visas are generally sponsored by the employer, who normally arranges entry permission, medical checks, Emirates ID and residence processing. Dependants may be sponsored subject to salary and legal requirements. New arrivals should budget for housing, transport, health insurance and school fees where applicable. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are well connected, but costs can be high, especially for accommodation.
