Its culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, markets and a strong dining scene. Lifestyle is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, coastal areas, hiking trails and busy urban districts, although accommodation and living costs are high. Foreign professionals generally need an approved employment visa sponsored by their employer, commonly through the General Employment Policy, with eligibility based on qualifications, experience, salary and a confirmed job offer. Employers often provide medical coverage, meals, housing support or relocation assistance, but this varies by contract. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, an identity card, banking and tax registration after arrival.
