Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major employment hubs in Metro Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, and other tourism destinations. Hospitality, tourism, retail, business-process services, technology, healthcare, and education provide many job opportunities, while resort work is particularly common on islands such as Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan. Filipino culture is warm, family-oriented, community-minded, and influenced by Malay, Spanish, American, and Asian traditions. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach communities; costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Manila rents and premium island locations can be expensive. English is widely used in business and hotels, alongside Filipino and regional languages. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Alien Employment Permit and appropriate work visa, commonly a 9(g) pre-arranged employment visa. Do not work on a tourist visa, and confirm current immigration requirements before relocating.
