Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent transport links to many outlying islands. It offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, professional services and tourism. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable socially and professionally. Lifestyle options range from busy urban districts and renowned restaurants to beaches, hiking trails and quieter island communities. Rent can be high, particularly near central business areas, so many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, with eligibility based on qualifications, salary and a genuine job offer. Candidates should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and tax registration before relocating.
