Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism and marine activities, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island life in Langkawi or Penang combines beaches, nature, multicultural communities and a relaxed lifestyle, while resort work can involve long hours during peak seasons. Malaysian culture is diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and the company generally handles the application after a formal offer. Requirements can include passport checks, qualifications, medical clearance and immigration approval. Relocation costs, accommodation, transport and visa support should be confirmed directly with Shangri-La. New arrivals should budget for deposits, insurance, local transport and variable island living costs.
