Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, finance and technology. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, organised and generally respectful of punctuality, cleanliness and personal responsibility. Public transport is excellent, although accommodation and everyday expenses can be high, especially near central districts. Popular areas include Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Sentosa, Chinatown and Little India, while parks and waterfront spaces provide opportunities to relax. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and the position. The employer usually handles the application, but approval is not automatic. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage and relocation support before accepting an offer.
