The Public Area Attendant keeps hotel lobbies, corridors, lifts, washrooms, entrances and other guest-facing areas clean, safe and presentable. Typical duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, replenishing supplies, removing waste and reporting maintenance or safety issues. Candidates should be physically fit, detail-oriented, reliable and comfortable working shifts, weekends and public holidays. Previous hotel or cleaning experience is preferred, while a positive attitude, teamwork, good personal presentation and basic communication skills are expected. Familiarity with cleaning equipment and workplace safety procedures is an advantage. The role requires courteous interaction with guests and consistent compliance with Shangri-La’s service and cleanliness standards.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and known for its hotels, resorts and serviced residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations. The group is recognised for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and comfortable, well-maintained properties. Its Hong Kong hotels serve business travellers, leisure guests, families and local event customers, with operations spanning accommodation, restaurants, banquets, wellness and guest services. Employees generally work in a structured, multicultural environment with opportunities to develop hotel operations skills. Benefits and conditions vary by property and employment contract, but may include meals, uniforms, medical coverage, staff rates and training.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, dense city living and a fast-paced work style. Housing can be expensive, but public transport is excellent and many neighbourhoods provide easy access to shopping, hiking trails, beaches and cultural attractions. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport and daily expenses. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong company; applicants normally require a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers usually assist with documentation, but visa approval is handled by the Immigration Department. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and business settings.
