Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, finance, tourism, technology, manufacturing, and shared services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and Johor. Penang combines a strong hotel and business sector with heritage streets, beaches, excellent food, and a relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi is more resort-focused, while Kuala Lumpur provides broader career options and urban amenities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions reflected in food, festivals, language, and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass before starting work; the employer usually manages approval and documentation. Candidates should confirm passport, qualification, medical, and immigration requirements with Shangri-La and Malaysian authorities. Reliable public transport is available in major cities, while island living may require a car or scooter.
