Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, travel services, wellness, construction, technology and education, with particularly strong demand in Colombo, the southern coast, Kandy and major resort destinations. The culture blends Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences, with Buddhism playing an important role in daily life. People generally value hospitality, family, community and respectful communication. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach, hill-country and village environments; living costs are moderate, though imported goods can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored residence or work visa, and should confirm current requirements with the Sri Lankan mission and employer before travelling. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, healthcare, banking, transport, schooling where relevant, and local tax obligations. Hambantota is quieter and more spacious than Colombo, with warm weather, beaches and wildlife nearby, but fewer international amenities.
