Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics and corporate services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Penang combines heritage culture, modern amenities and excellent food, while Langkawi provides a relaxed island lifestyle with beaches, nature and a strong resort industry. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism and business. Living costs are moderate, although island housing and imported goods can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and approval must be obtained before starting work. Employers commonly handle much of the application process. Relocating candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical insurance, working hours and benefits in writing. Respect for local customs, religious practices and Malaysia’s tropical climate will help newcomers settle comfortably.
