Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, communications and business services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island life in Langkawi or Penang combines beaches, food, outdoor activities and a relaxed pace, while Kuala Lumpur provides broader career options, transport links and urban amenities. Malaysian culture is diverse, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities, with festivals, languages and cuisines varying by region. Living costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and resort areas can be more expensive. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and approval depends on the role, qualifications and current immigration rules. Employers normally handle much of the application process. Relocating candidates should confirm accommodation, healthcare, taxation, insurance and contract terms before arrival. English is widely used in business, while Malay is the national language.
