Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago offering varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, engineering, logistics, retail and construction. Bali is the most internationally oriented island for hospitality work, while Java, including Jakarta and Surabaya, offers broader corporate and industrial employment. Lombok and other eastern islands provide growing resort opportunities but may have fewer services and transport links. Local culture values respect, community, modest dress and religious observance; Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, with Hindu traditions especially prominent in Bali. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali and Jakarta generally more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and the appropriate work and stay permits before starting employment; tourist status does not authorize work. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, tax, visa sponsorship and contract terms directly with Shangri-La before relocating.
